Lights, Camera, Fashion...

After convincing my amazing friend Iiona to use her paparazzi camera to be my photographer and after many many failed attempts due to horrible weather, we finally had a shoot together. Wooo Hooo! I was so excited to have someone other than myself take some outfit shots. I loved shooting outside it was so much fun, I got to move around and really showcase the entire outfit. We went to the park and took over a hundred pics, which is why I have lots of pics for this post. Iiona was so wonderful that I’m making her my official photographer.  I’m also trying to convince her to do more shoots on a regular basis, I’m keeping my finger crossed for that. So a very special thank you Iiona J.

As for the outfit I’ve had this dress for a while and it’s one of my favorite things to wear in the summer. It’s really lightweight and comfy, I almost fell like I hardly have on any clothes when I wear this dress. The print is a floral pattern but it looks more like petals to me. Until doing daily outfit pics I never realized how much flower printed clothing I own.  But I love love love this dress. The yellow cardi is also a fav because when I first bought it I thought that I would hardly ever wear it because it’s such a bright color and even though yellow is one of my fav colors I didn’t think it would match that many outfits of mine. How wrong I was I actually love that it gives everything a pop of color. It was also a great buy at $10 from Old Navy. Currently I’m obsessed with wedges and these shoes I got from payless during a bogo sale. They are super comfy and I can make it through an entire day at work with these on and no pain. Now that’s what I call a great shoe. The necklace and bracelet I got on one of the few occasions I went thrift store shopping. They were so cute and only $2 for each I pretty much had to get em both.

Floral Fun

I wore this one day last week while running around and doing some errands. My sister gave me this shirt and jeans as a gift over a year ago and I hadn’t ever worn the shirt until now. You know how you get new things and then put them away with your other clothes… and you forget that you have em. Well that’s what happened with this shirt and it’s not the first time I’ve forgotten all about a lovely item of clothing. The good news is, once you do rediscover what you’ve put away it’s like getting something new all over again and who doesn’t love that. Anyway it has all these pretty jewels around the neckline and under the bust area, very pretty for summer. The grey cardi has this great rouching on the front and was a gift from my dad for Christmas, I’m pretty sure my mom helped him pick it out but he did a great job cuz this is one of my favorite cardi’s. I’ve also been trying to be more daring and bold in my makeup choices so I chose this pink gloss to wear, it seemed to really go with the shirt and necklace.

Mad About Plaid

Since the nice weather has been more consistent I’ve been able to wear lots of my skirts and dresses. And it was so nice that I decided to do photos outside on my balcony. I gotta say, I really like how the balcony pics turned out hopefully I can do more shoots like this one.

Now on to the outfit, I bought this dress like a month or 2 ago and this was my first time wearing it. You can’t see because of the cadi but it has these really cool black lace shoulders. I’ll try and remember to take some shots without the cardi next time. It’s actually a little too big for me but since I ordered it online and I hate returning things through the mail I decided to keep it and just belt it. I really love how the plaid print is smaller and the navy blue color is more subtle. I paired the black cardi on top because I wanted to keep things simple and neutral. At first I had belted just the dress and left the cardi open but every time I walked it would slip off my shoulder. It got a little annoying so I ended up belting the whole thing. Then I went with the tan colored booties because they gave a bit of brightness to the outfit. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Til next time!

Put On A Happy Face

A couple of days ago I broke one of my nails and needed a fix asap. The thought of having 9 cute nails and 1 noticeably plain nail was not a good look. So I went to get them redone and while I was there deciding on what kind of design I wanted I spotted this bright yellow shade. I love me some yellow, it’s such a happy color and I’m generally a happy person so the result… smiley face nailsJ! But I really can’t take any credit because I got the idea from one of my all time favorite style icons the ever fashionable Rihanna.

Bloggers Do It Better Challenge

This is my first time participating in a BDIB style challenge “Bloggers Do It Better: Prep School”, the premise was to do your own version of a prep school outfit. Once I actually made up my mind that I was going to give it go and create a prep school outfit, I immediately thought of this pink plaid skirt. Whenever I think of prep school I think of uniforms and what I had to wear back to when I was younger. My uniform consisted of blue plaid skirts and they were not nearly as cute or stylish as this pink plaid mini. This skirt was one of my first purchases from outside the US. I ordered it online form Evans in the UK and if you’ve never been to their website please check it out they have some really amazing stuff for curvy girls.

Anyway back to the challenge outfit, I went with this white ruffle shirt because I wanted there to be more visual interest instead of just doing a plain button up. Then I picked the blazer to tie it together because the open V-neck was the perfect length on top for showing off the ruffles of the shirt. I had originally wanted to wear black knee high’s as well but I couldn’t find them anywhere, and I’m not sure how a pair of tights can just disappear but believe me I looked. Oh well it’s a good excuse to go and buy more. The shoes were a nice final touch the bows on top are just so sweet and cute to me. As for my first challenge, how’d I do?

Pretty in Pink

Today I turned in the last of my homework and said goodbye to school. It may only be goodbye until summer semester starts in June, but it was a still goodbye none the less. It felt sooo good to be completely done with all my work and know that I have a couple of weeks of relaxation to enjoy. It seemed like it took forever to get those last assignments and final projects all turned in but it’s finally over so YAY for me.

Ok moving on to my outfit, it was gorgeous outside today so I wanted to wear a skirt. I went with this white floral one because I hadn’t worn it in a while and the print just says spring/summer. I figured a day like this deserved some attention. This skirt is one of those that has a great twirl effect when you spin. Also I’m also a sucker for floral prints I can’t get enough of them so it skirt is just a win win all around.  I went with the pink shirt since the skirt made me feel really girly and there’s no better color than pink to keep a girly theme going. I prefer to wear cardi’s as a way to add more layers and give dimension to my outfits. So I picked out this brown cardi (I love a brown and pink combo). Finally the shoes, I ordered these about a 2 months ago and haven’t had a chance to wear them since the weather has been so crazy here. Snow, then a little sun, then rain and mud… ugh, definitely not ideal weather for cream colored lace shoes. Today however was the perfect day to break out these lovely wedges so I took full advantage.

Hope you all enjoy you weekend,
Alicia

Floral Essence

It was an amazing 84 degrees yesterday and can I just say… YAY! Spring has finally come to the Midwest even if it is only 1 -2 days a week. We’re getting there people, baby steps lol. So since spring did decide to show up, I got a chance to wear my two tiered floral print skirt. When I first woke up and saw how beautiful it looked outside this skirt was the first thing that popped in my head. I bought it at the end of summer last year on sale. I paired the white sweater with it because this cable knit is so lightweight and comfy. It’s one of those sweaters that can easily be worn in transition seasons like spring and fall. Then I went with neutral colored wedges and I was out the door. Most of my shoes are neutral colors probably because they go with everything. One of my fashion goals for 2011 is to incorporate more colored shoes into my wardrobe, I’ll keep you posted on how that goes.

Have a great weekend,
Alicia
