2012 BET Awards

The BET Awards aired this past Sunday and of course I had to watch it! Plus I needed to get my red carpet fashion fix. Although a few notable celebs didn't walk the carpet there were plenty of others who proudly strutted their looks. If there weren't many wow moments outside the event there were definitely some backstage and on stage. Here are my favs...

First up is the always beautiful Selita Ebanks. She definitly had my favorite look of the night in a Falguni and Shane Peacock creation!
I can't get enough of this dress I just love everything about it! The sleeves, the sheer skirt, the beaded shorts, the insane amount of detailing. Even though those shorts underneath are a little too short for me (mainly because I don't have her body), it looks fantastic on Selita! The extra pop of silver she brings with that clutch is great but I'm not sure if I would have picked that particular bag...

On to Beyonce who wore a couture gown from Stephanie Rolland's Spring 2012 collection. Is chartreuse the new "it" color cause I feel like I've been seeing it a lot lately and just on celebs. Anyway, on the runway this dress and gold belt was worn with the point facing up, but I too would have worn the belt down just as Beyonce did here. When is Beyonce ever not a stunner, its Beyonce... she always shuts it down!

While I didn't see Brandy on the red carpet she did do a great performance of "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" during the Whitney Houston tribute. She also presented an award wearing this gorgeous Balmain Spring 2012 shirtdress shirt. I rarely like when women wear shirts as dresses, but this is one case where I think that 1 the shirt seems long enough and 2 wearing pants or a skirt would have only taken away from the beauty of this shirt.

Kim Kardashian wore an all white look matching her boo Kanye (scroll down to see Kanye's outfit). At first when I saw Kim and even throughout the show when they would cut to her I wasn't impressed. Then I came across this backstage pic of her dress from behind... let me tell you that I instantly fell in love! I am all about a dramatic look and Kim certainly served up the drama with all that backless-ness and zipper details goin on. Business in the front and party in the back indeed...

Monica had 2 looks for the evening. The first was her red carpet look that consisted of berry colored sequined pants and a matching blazer. I do like this look, but I don't love it for an event like the BET Awards. Though that jacket is killer! Her 2nd look that she wore while performing her part of the Whitney Houston tribute, was from Alexander McQueen's 2010 collection. Hello, its Alexander McQueen need I say more...

LaLa Vasquez attended the event wearing a sparkly Loris London jumpsuit. She added some Jimmy Choo heels, a Versace belt and jewels from Loren Ridinger to complete her shiny look. Good thing she went with a natural makeup look and simple hair, otherwise I'd think she was channeling disco fever way too literally...

Melanie Fiona came through in a chic yet reveling black pleated jumpsuit. I really like and appreciate the minimalism of this look. Her body chain is hot, as well as her soft curls and red lip. Everything about this look is a yes for me, less is definitely more in this case. Kudos to her stylist because a black jumpsuit on the red carpet can surprisingly be a bad look when not done correctly...

Former Destiny's Child backup singer member LeToya Luckett also came through in a chartreuse gown (see, I told you it must be the new "it" color). I love the top and bottom of this dress but just not together, I feel like she has 2 different dresses on. But I still like the overall look with her sleek ponytail and simple summer makeup. I don't know if I've ever seen LeToya look this beautiful.

Speaking of Destiny's Child Michelle Williams didn't stray too far from her comfort zone in a Hereve Leger nude and lace bandage dress and Christian Louboutin heels. She definitely looks pretty and all but I wish she would step her style game up a bit. I mean at this point I am soo over the Herve Leger bandage dress trend...

Mariah Carey showed up at the Awards in her unusual Mariah Carey type of look. She wore a floor length nude colored beaded gown with front slit. This is another celeb who I wish would try something new when it comes to personal style. I mean she looks great but haven't we seen this type of look from her time and time again...

For the men, a majority of them wore jeans and some sort of a tee which is fine... boring but fine. Their simple looks only made guys like Jay-Z and Kanye who had the 2 best looks for men of the evening stand out more.

I'm really liking Jay's light grey and white combo, no chain or earring to distract from the look. He looks very grown man chic and it was nice to see somebody in a suit!
Kanye did it up in all white (wonder whose idea it was to match Kim or Kanye... prob Kanye). Love love love his shirt, the fabric and texture look very intriguing. I'm soo happy that he choose to keep his chain hidden, I think the little part peeking out is perfect.

Swizz Beats came minus his boo Alicia Keys. I love his fashion! Never boring, even if I don't love what he's wearing. However, I happen to love this look on him and I'm happy to see a guy's take on the whole printed pants trend. Swizz let his pants do the talking by keeping the rest of his look neutral. Simple accessories including funky zippers on his shoulders, small chains and bracelets complete his look...

Lastly, Hosea Chanchez caught my eye with this fabulous blue suit and he got major points for combining it with those leopard print shoes! Loving it from "H" to "T" as Tyra would say. But that chain and open shirt are putting me off a bit. Overall though I'm diggin it.
